In 2009 BMW Motorrad delivered 87,306 motorcycles, down from 101,685 in the previous year. Sales dropped 14.1% which marked BMW as the company with the second lowest decline when compared to the competition. Although sales decreased last year, the German company was able to achieve their sales targets as well as increase their market share despite the current economic conditions.
The market share increase was reflected in the European markets, Great Britain and Eastern Europe, the Asian markets of Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, as well as in the Middle East and Brazil. Of all the territories where BMW motorcycles have a presence, Germany still holds the largest market for BMW Motorrad. 15,833 BMW motorcycles were registered in 2009 compared to 18,112 the year before.
So which motorcycle was the most successful? The BMW R1200GS carried the torch with 15,864 units sold. The F800GS and F800R were right behind the leader selling 10,974 and 5,828 units, respectively.
What’s to look forward to in 2010? BMW is expecting to announce positive results for its first bike to enter the Sportbike market, the S1000RR. BMW Motorrad hopes to obtain roughly 12% of that market after one year from the release date. The company has reported just over 2,000 orders for the S1000RR since its launch in December 2009.
Sources:By far the most popular search that leads people to this site, is a search for the rumored variants of the BMW R1200RT for 2010, such as “R1300RT”, or R1250RT”. Everyone seems to want to know what the 2010 version of the BMW R-bikes are going to be.
Well, now we know. It’s the R1200RT, and R1200GS.
The 2010 BMW motorcycle R1200 Motorcycle models will have the Double Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) eight valve engine. Although it does not bring any power increase (110bhp), it will give you slightly more torque (from 85 to 88 lb/ft). Aside from the engine, the RT offers something that you won’t find on the GS. The RT comes with the BMW ESA II electronically adjustable suspension. This system contains an adjustable spring rate (shown below).
In addition to the spring rate (the amount of force needed to compress the spring), the ESA II offers immediate compression and rebound adjustment. BMW has really catered to the rider in this area, allowing the operator to fully adjust the suspension at the touch of a button!
One hell of a line up for 2010

A member by the name of orangemarlin shares one of his many experiences where our HID lights have kept him safe on the road.

Orangemarlin:

“I am running the 6000K, and have had no issues. I have probably put around 2-3000 miles at night since installing them, and I've not had one person flick on his brights from oncoming traffic. I did adjust the lights ever so slightly downward, but I really see the road.

One night, someone dropped a roll of very dark carpet onto the freeway. My HID's picked it up before I had to do an emergency move to avoid it. It scared the crap out of me however.”

We have been getting asked alot of questions regarding Hi/Lo conversions for BMW Motorcycles. Our customers have been wondering what options they have if they want to upgrade any older BMW bikes from Halogen to HID's. Alot of the kits out in the market are mostly designed for cars, and that has been all they have had had access to.

Not any more

1 OFF Motorsports has just finished designing a new option for these customers, our new Hi/Lo conversion for BMW motorcycles has been specifically designed with our BMW customers in mind. The wiring harness required for Hi/Lo conversions is specifically designed to fit all BMW Motorcycles with a Hi/Lo bulb.
